Camino De Santiago Keychain

When we decided to walk the Camino de Santiago in Spain, I knew that I wanted to crochet something to carry with me on our adventure. This keychain displays the famous blue and yellow Camino shell, which helps guide pilgrims along their journey. The bottom core of the shell shows which direction to go. Just as there are many lines on the shell, there are many paths that all lead to Santiago de Compostela.

I brought some yarn, keychains, and a crochet hook with me and made several more of these along the way. We passed them out to other pilgrims that we had met. It was so special to see their faces light up as we gave them away. In exchange, we received many thank-yous, hugs, exchanged gifts, and even a song! My only regret was not bringing more keychains along with me.

In case I ever to decide to walk another Camino or if you'd like to make some for your journey, I wrote down the pattern to share with others!

Materials

Size H (5mm) crochet hook

Size 4 yarn (blue and yellow)

Scissors

Embroidery needle

Optional: Keychain ring

Row 4: SC in each ST around, cut & tie off yarn (30)

Shell

With an embroidery needle, use yellow yarn to create the shell on one blue circle.

Optional: Crochet your keychain ring in this final round or cut another yellow piece of string to add at the end.

Finishing

Line up the two circles (the one with the shell on top) and sc around to combine. Tie off and weave in end.
